The principle is simple: the more frequently something is touched, the closer it needs to be.  If you haven’t used something in six months or a year archive it or throw it away.  When in doubt, throw it out.

  • Scan hard copies onto hard drive or discs: reduce paper.
  • Paper never lies naked unless it’s being worked on.
  • Use explicitly labeled, color coded folders in stand-up holders.
  • Use colored pencils, pens and markers; keep your area bright.
