The shaking hands reminds of the yin and yang symbol. In the area of organization development there are (reflective of the world we live in today) two philosophies guiding the creation, maintenance and growth of an organization. One method ignores what’s working and ferrets out what’s painful or dysfunctional to be fixed. The other method focuses on what’s working and seeks ways of doing more of what feels right and produces great results. The first method has its place but it can drain energy as it hosts blame. Power Communication tends more toward the appreciative approach. Magnifying what is going well magnifies energy and fosters cooperation. With the appreciative approach one experiences more laughter and lighthearted consistent improvement in both process and improvement. |
